Course Overview

This residential break offers an inspiring opportunity to develop your skills in pastel, watercolour, acrylic, and mixed media techniques. Designed for artists of all levels, the course includes:

Daily demonstrations and individual tuition.
Compositional sketches in various media, developing them into full paintings.
Optional outdoor painting (weather permitting).

Full board (all meals included).
Access to 6 acres of beautiful grounds, with views of the nearby sea.

Course Schedule

Weekly Courses: Start Monday at 4PM, finish after breakfast on Friday.
Weekend Courses: Start Friday at 4PM, finish after breakfast on Monday.

Arrival Details:
Please arrive after 2 PM and take your materials to the studio on arrival. Sue will be there to greet you.

Materials to Bring

General Supplies:

Easel (table or floor-standing, optional).
Drawing board (thin plywood or MDF to fit your paper size).
Masking tape, kitchen towels, 2B pencil, putty rubber, and coloured masking fluid.
Mixing palette.

Watercolours:

Recommended palette:
1. Ultramarine Blue
2. Cobalt Blue
3. Cerulean Blue
4. Permanent Rose
5. Cadmium Yellow
6. Lemon Yellow
7. Yellow Ochre
8. Cadmium Red
9. Cobalt Violet
Paper: Bockingford, Saunders Waterford, or Arches (300lb/600gsm recommended to avoid stretching).
Brushes: Synthetic brushes (sizes 12, 8, and 3 rigger).

Acrylics:

Same colours as watercolours, plus Naples Yellow, Turquoise, Opera Rose, and a large tube of Titanium White (System 3 recommended).
Canvases or boards (20 x 16 inches or smaller).

Pastels:

A selection of hard and soft pastels (e.g., Unison, Sennelier, or Inscribe).

Collage:

Board or card (20 x 16 inches), PVA glue or Mod Podge, and embellishments.

Additional Items:

Sketchbook (A5 for location work).
Camera or iPad (optional).
Folding chair (optional for outdoor painting).
Charcoal, cartridge paper, water-soluble pen, and permanent pen in black or sepia.
2B and 4B pencils.
A cloth for your table and a bag to carry your materials.
